What happens in a TAG Heuer full service
What we actually do
A full service is not a clean and it is not a battery. People compare it to a car service, but it’s much closer to a full engine rebuild. That’s why it takes weeks rather than days.
- Assessed and estimated. We identify the exact reference and movement, check the watch over and send you a written estimate. Nothing chargeable happens until you approve it.
- Completely dismantled. The movement comes out of the case and is taken apart, part by part.
- Cleaned and inspected. Every part is cleaned and checked for wear.
- Genuine parts fitted. Anything worn is replaced with genuine TAG Heuer parts, never anything else.
- Rebuilt and lubricated. Different oils for different jobs, in tiny measured amounts.
- Regulated. On the timing machine in several positions, because a watch that runs well flat on its back doesn’t always run well on a wrist.
- Sealed and pressure tested. All three seals are replaced (case back, crown and the gasket under the glass), then the watch is tested to its rated depth. You get the printout.
- Run and checked. It’s run and monitored over several days before it leaves us, with a light polish, and it comes home with a 2-year guarantee.
Signs your TAG Heuer needs a service
Does yours need one?
- It’s gaining or losing time noticeably
- The winding feels gritty or stiff
- It stops when you take it off, or the power reserve has shortened
- There’s misting under the glass. That’s a seal, and it needs attention quickly.
- The chronograph hand won’t return to zero, or a pusher has gone soft
- Nothing is wrong, but it’s been about five years. That’s the best time to have it done.
Oil doesn’t last forever. Once it thins, parts start to wear against each other, and wear costs more to put right than a service would have.

How much does a TAG Heuer service cost?
A full service costs from £240 for a quartz watch, £295 for a quartz chronograph, £335 for an automatic, £425 for an automatic chronograph and £495 for a Calibre Heuer 01 or 02 or a COSC chronometer, all including VAT. A light polish is included.
How often should a TAG Heuer be serviced?
Roughly every five years. Quartz watches still need their oils and seals renewed, even though the battery is changed more often.
How long does a TAG Heuer service take?
About 3 to 6 weeks. If a genuine part has to be ordered it can take longer, and we’ll tell you if so.
My watch keeps perfect time. Does it still need a service?
Probably, if it’s been more than five years. The oil thins before the timekeeping suffers, so by the time a watch runs badly the wear has already started. Servicing it while it still runs well is the cheaper option.
Is there an authorised TAG Heuer service near me?
TAG Works is an authorised TAG Heuer service centre that serves the whole of the UK by insured post, so it doesn’t matter where you live. Your watch is serviced on our own bench and comes back insured.
What’s the difference between a service and a repair?
A full service rebuilds the whole movement so the watch runs correctly. A repair puts one specific fault right, such as a crown, pusher, glass or bezel. Some watches need one and not the other, and we’ll tell you which.
Do you use genuine TAG Heuer parts?
Yes, only genuine TAG Heuer parts. We are an authorised TAG Heuer service centre.
Is a polish included?
A light polish is included with every full service. A full refurbishment of the case and bracelet is separate work, from £120.
Will I know the price before you start?
Yes. We assess the watch and send a written estimate, and nothing chargeable happens until you approve it. If you decide against it, it comes home.
What does the 2-year guarantee cover?
The work we carried out and the parts we fitted, for two years. It doesn’t cover new accidental damage.
Is my watch too old to service?
Almost certainly not. Send us the reference from the case back and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.
